Participants in the WILM speak from experience
I now know myself a little better. I can now acknowledge the skills I use everyday, and I have the opportunity to address aspects of my position/role that I believe are important and that can be improved.
I think it would be beneficial to be able to check my current skill levels against other people in similar levels of management across the nation. I would be able to discuss my current level with my mentor, and set goals for future growth.
I think this is an excellent way to identify skills needed and skills held by staff; in particular, it might be a good measure when considering 'promotions' and succession planning.
"I have completed a number of 'leadership training' activities in the past, but was unaware of how many of my day-to-day supervisory activities I really take for granted- to the point that I expect everyone to have those skills. I believe the more we understand ourselves, the better we can function; I now know myself a little better, I can now acknowledge the skills I use everyday, and I have the opportunity to address aspects of my position/role that I believe are important and that can be improved."
"WILM tool has more practical application than others I've seen"
"These assessment tools can be used to help others seeking a job in first and second line management in a production environment as well as a tool to help people that are trying to receive credit for informal learning in the workplace"
"The assessment tool verifies how you use your soft skills and how you may be failing"
*The WILM process is more focused on informal learning, and how those skills are used in the workplace. It would help Management to guide their supervisors in advancing their skills and understanding their role in the organization.
This organization might find it useful to discover ways of measuring soft skills. Also realizing which skills are used on a consistent day to day basis and at what level. Being able to better measure these would help the hiring and promoting process.
When asked how employees think the organization might find the WILM useful they respond: 'analysis of skill levels as they tie into Strategic Plan and specifically, the application of skills levels to the liquor commission's ore and supplemental competencies. |
